Toilet Reading
I'd love to get a copy of this toilet paper novel, but I'm not really an on the john reader.
Infact, it may be bad for your health to read on the toilet. Here's a guide concerning bathroom reading.
Happy Towel Day!

Festival Updates
Deathfest is so big this year, they're low on beer:

And oddly, it's SoWeBo today and it's not even raining! Yet.
Whartscape 2009 is happening, so keep your eye on this for updates.

May Baltozine Roundup
Keeping track of new magazines (etc.) that come in that talk about Baltimore stuff. For more on, by, or about Baltimore-area artists, check out the following issues below.
Filter #35
This issue has a cover feature on Animal Collective called "Animal Collective: An Interior Design" by Patrick Strange.
"With Merriweather Post Pavilion, the group's eight studio LP, Animal Collective has arguably created one of 2009's best records, and considering the band's back catalogue, quite possibly its musical masterwork. Meticulously realized, lavishly engineered and succeeding in combining meditative lyrics with rich instrumentation like the group's never done before, Merriweather Post Pavilion just might bring attention to a band usually overlooked due to its avant-garde sound and inconspicuous identity."
Maximum Rocknroll #313
Deep Sleep "Paranoid Futures" EP
"...delivering guitar riffs in the SoCal hardcore tradition in the midst of melancholy melodic licks. ...it's still a great record and I'm psyched to see this band putting so much energy into their music."
-Diane Anastasio
Smile, Hon, You're In Baltimore: Intersections
"I feel like I would get a lot more out of this if I lived in Baltimore, or if I'd even ever spent any significant amount of time there, but it's still an enjoyable read."
-XYosefX
Brutarian Quarterly #53
Rigor Mortis #1
"Stuffed to near-to-bursting with reviews of the undead as portrayed in movies, books and graphic novels. And it makes for good reading what with the writerly approach the contributors take to things. ...It's a terrific approach: carnival culture for the inquisitive intellectual. And it's adorned, that is to say, profusely illustrated with ghoulishly atavistic art courtesy of the diabolically clever humanoid known only as Bojan." -Dom Salemi
Gothic Beauty #28
In their 2009 Dark Cities Survey (the top 25 cities where it's good to be goth), Baltimore ranked #11.

Weekend Wrap Up

Davy and Peter Rothbart are on the road on their Denim & Diamonds Tour and stopped by yesterday.

Fun as always, as is their new book, Requiem for a Paper Bag. They stopped by NPR yesterday morning to talk about it.
I forgot to take photos on Free Comic Book Day, but Gene Ha came by to visit during Found.

FCBD just gets better and better. We're already scheming up surprises for next year!
And the winners of our Rock Band competition - Mississippi Dipper! Melissa, Shawn, Richard & Ben:

That was also a LOT of fun! Thanks for coming out and helping us raise money for Ride for the Feast. You can still donate to Team Atomic!
